mpg / mpeg thumbnails

In the last 30 to 45 days XP Explorer has stopped generating thumbnails for
mpg and mpeg files. Thumbnails for all other file types work including still
and video file types such as avi and wmv. I have searched the user groups for
weeks now and have tried re-registering SHMEDIA.DLL and SHIMGVW.DLL and I
have checked the registry fixes listed in Kelly's Korner (Thumbnail Fixes -
Line 17) but nothing has made a difference. I have deleted THUMBS.DB each
time to force a new one to generate and when I do the wmv and avi thumbnails
refresh but I get WMP logos for mpg and mpeg files. If I copy the files to a
shared folder on my desktop it still does not generate thumbnails for mpg or
mpeg files but if I look in the same folder with XP Explorer on my laptop
thumbnails are generated. Can anyone help?

You mean the thumbnail is not generated if the file is accessed from a
network share?
