Hi,
I cannot open the mpg-files that I made with my photo-camera any longer.
This worked pretty well in XP, not in Vista anymore.

Help !
I have lots of them, what should I do ?

Thanks

V.A.:
I had a similar problem. Are these large movie files? I found I could not
open, move, copy or delete my .mpg files after upgrading to Vista. I posted a
question about it in the Vista Performance & Maintenance section of this
forum. If you want to see the advice I got, do a search in this forum for the
subject large files,
in the section Vista Performance & maintenance
and look at the question "can't delete large .mpg files"
I found out how to delete the files at least. And to open them, the program
I was using was making .mpgs from recorded television. So I found I could
open the files in the original program, but Vista just won't open them. The
"fix" they told me about I haven't tried yet.
Good luck!

Hi Amanda,
In my case, it are small 15 seconds mpg-files that I made with my
photo-camera.
I could perfectly play them in WMP11 under XP.
But I cannot play them aly longer under Vista.

This is an awful drawback in Vista - I will have to go back to XP if MS
cannot come up with a backward-compatibility solution.

I hope that this works for Amanda, but for me it does not John.

I still get the popup window that tells me :
"Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For
additional assistance, click Web Help."
When I click the Web Help button, I am brought to a MS-page that says there
is probably something wrong with my sound device.
My sound device is however functioning perfectly.

I have found kind of a solution :
- Install Vista Codec Pack v.437
- Install Media Player Classic
And I can play most Media files.

I wonder why I still need the Media Player Classic.
And I hate it that I need both - WMP & MPC

Is there a way to disconnect all the media file types from Windows Media
Player and add them to Media Player Classic.
It looks like (simple) Media Player Classic can handle a lot more stuff than
the (sophisticated) Windows Media Player, although the Vista Codec Pack
should work for both of them ????

If you are going to use MPC, I personally use the K-Lite codec packs. As to
your other question, if you only have a few media types to switch over, like
I do, (mp4 for one), just right click on the file and select open with,
browse to the MPC.exe file and select it. When the box comes up check the
box to make that the default player for that media type.

K-Lite is extremely bad. Codec packs in general cause a lot more problems
than they solve. =\

K-lite and MPC are better than anything Microsoft has to offer at the
moment. Just look at all the happy posters on the various MSFT sites.
