MP3 Ripping

Hi, I'm a little confused. I've read lots of reviews and threads from this
group, and all seem to imply you can rip audio tracks straight from cd to MP3
within MP10....Not on mine though?! I have 3 pc's in my office, and i can
rip from cd to MP3 on one of them ok, but the other 2 give an error message
that there is no mp3 encoder installed on my machine. I can then follow a
link and buy a plug-in to do this. I thought MP10 could do this as standard?

Any help would help.

Re-install WMP10.

Or install this Codec package :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx

Or, download AudioGrabber and the lame Encoder - they're free and will do
the job perfectly. I find it less complicated to use.

Thanks Jerry, but still no joy. Tried installing the codecs etc, but no
change. Then uninstalled, downloaded latest WMP10 and
re-installed......still the same error message-

"Windows Media Player cannot rip the track because a compatible MP3 encoder
is not installed on your computer. Install a compatible MP3 encoder or choose
a different format to rip to (such as Windows Media Audio)."

I'm guessing there's something in the registry that needs a bit of a nudge?!
I appreciate i can get round this by using 'audiograbber' or something
similar, but its just damn annoying me now!!

Do not dispair - see this article :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/faq.aspx#6_5

Change the bitrate to 160 or 192 instead of 128 and see what happens.

I would still say use AudioGrabber - you can at least rip at 128 ...... (CD
quality) !!!

Cheers,
Jerry
