mp3 players on my laptop

I am having a problem with my Dell Inspiron laptop. I plug my mp3 player into
my laptop and it recognizes the software but it will not allow me to
synchronize music on it. When i open windows media player 11 i don't even see
the player being recognized . Is it possible that my laptop can't even
support the use of my mp3 player? I do not even get the window that pops up
to ask me what i want to do with the device....odd!!

Grrrrrrr this is so annoying because it works fine on my desktop pc!!!!

Go to: Start>Run>type DISKMGMT.MSC and press OK.
If it has a power button turn it on and see if the MP3 is listed
as a removable drive like Disk 1 Removable (F). If it is listed
then it is recognized if not, your USB port may not be active.
Then type: devmgmt.msc and scroll to the bottom for the
USB controllers and see if any have a yellow exclamation (!)
or question (?) mark on them. If they do, rightclick and click
uninstall. Reboot PC which should reinstall the USB ports.
