Media player doesn't recognize MP3 player

I bought a new Creative ZEN Nano MP3 player for my 11 year old. We are
frustrated. When I connect it to my computer using the USB cable, the media
player does not recognize it. My computer does, I get a pop up window that
says new hardware installed, but no F: drive seen under "my computer". I've
been to device manager - it says hardware functioning properly, and plug and
play is set on automatic. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Many PC's have their USB ports go to sleep to conserve system resources
and power after a period of time. Do you leave your PC running constantly?
Reboot and try again. If that does not help, you can uninstall the USB ports,
reboot which will reinstall the USB ports, and try again. You can uninstall
the USB ports in - Control Panel>System>Hardware tab>Device Manager
