Winamp has better sound but Foobar has better playlist handling. Not
sure about xmplay.
To amplify what you said:
Make that any Winamp 2.x version. Stay away from 3.x ... far away.

I just got winamp 5 today- it's still beta. I had switched from winamp to
qcd because of problems with winamp 3. The sound quality is good on the new
winamp as is the playlist handling. But I haven't tried the other 2
programs.
