Search for "Audacity" which is an open source project. You will need to install an add on to handle MP3 files, Audacity works with raw sound, but once set up it works very well. You will need to spend a little time setting up, it is not difficult but Audacity is capable of a lot of useful things.

Thanks guys, but I want something really simple, just to shorted mp3 files. I've googled Mp3 Editor so I may try it.
