Moving XP Home to another machine

I needed to upgrade my Lap Top's XP Home to XP Pro. Now
I'd like to use my XP Home on another machine. How can I
do this when it was registered on my lap top?

More detail: prior to registering the Home edition, I
discovered I needed XP Pro. To be certain all would be
OK, I installed XP Pro on another partition. Now (beyond
the 30 days) I cannot get into the Home partition unless
I register the product. I tried to over write the Home
partition with Pro, but it won't allow that.

Since your laptop came with a preinstalled OEM version of
Windows XP Home, you cannot install it on any other
computer. Its license is tied to the original computer
it was installed on and cannot be transfered.

Did you purchase an "upgrade" or "OEM" version of XP
Pro? If you have an OEM version, then you cannot upgrade
over Windows XP Home. You can only install it "clean" on
an empty partition or drive.

Need more info as to which version of XP Pro you have
acquired....

You can't move the xp home to another computer. The oem laptop has an oem
version of xp. OEM versions cannot be transferred to another computer. If
you decide to goto xp pro on the laptop, you forfeit your xp home.
OEM versions:

-- cannot upgrade over an existing Windows installation
-- must be installed on a "clean" drive
-- cannot be transferred to a new or different computer in the future
-- are not eligible for any free technical support from Microsoft
-- must be sold with some type of computer hardware
-- cost less because of the above limitations

I am not talking about any OEM versions. The XP Home and
XP Pro that I purchased are up grades. Both are
currently installed on my Lap Top and both work fine. I
am trying to install the XP Home addition (the upgrade
version) on a machine that is running ME (not OEM)

If it's not oem then just pop the cd in and go. When activation time comes,
if it fails, you will be given a number to call and explain what you did,
then ms will activate you. Painless.

I that case your installation of Pro to the laptop will release the Home
license. Remove it from the laptop, and you can then install on a
different machine. When it comes to activation, you may find it will go
through on the net anyway - if more than 120 days since you last did it
certainly will. If not, you will have to phone a toll-free number that
will be given, to explain and swap one long number for another to check
back as you type it in
