Moving system files

When I reimaged my computer, it assigned the system drive to I. This is
because I have one of the multi card readers. I didn't worry about it at the
time because I thought it would be a simple fix.

I assigned the system volume (simple volume but dynamic) 25 gigs of HD
space. I intended for data to be installed on the remaining simple volume
which was approx. 90 gigs. Unfortunately wife had been saving files all over
the place. I managed to move all the files to the system drive.

I then deleted the 90 gig simple volume and made a new one. I assigned it
the letter c.

My intention is to move everything to C including the system files. Then I
would delete the previous system volume. This would give me at least 90 gigs
to store everything and my wife wouldn't get confused on where to save items.

I need to know the proper way to move the system files.

Do I need to make a new installation of XP on the new volume?

I feel that would allow me to move everything to that volume and then delete
the older system volume.

Yes, there are far too many references to the system-volume in the registry
to change them all.

When installing, make sure that the partition you intend to be C: is the
Active one, on the first boot disk. Failing to observe this point is what
causes the problem. If the first blue setup screen (where to install) shows
the boot-partition as being other than C: then proceed no further, but
investigate why.
