Moving Roaming Profiles

I need to move profiles from one system to another. What I have currently is
two domains, domainA and domainB. There is a two way trust between the
domains.
Users on domainA use roaming profiles. I need to move all users and data
from domainA to domainB, before decommissioning domainA. I have used ADMT to
copy accounts and translate the user profiles. The problem is that the
translated profile settings for the new domainB accounts still point to a
share on XA-server in domainA. How do I get ADMT copy user profiles to a
share on XB-server in domainB?

I have used XP's Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to copy a users profile
to the proper location in domainB, but his is rather labor intensive. BTW all
clients are Windows XP.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

HI,

It's a while since I did this, but I seem to remember I just logged them
all out, moved them all to the new server, changed the profile path in
AD using ADSI, and then let them log back in again. You probably also
need to ensure all the ACLs will still be correct after the transfer. I
believe the SYSTEM account is supposed to have full control too.

I have the same problem and the solution is not as straight forward as "just
move them to the new server". The profiles do not copy from one server to
another. I am getting many error messages that indicate the some portion of
the profile cannot be moved. Usually this is a permissions problem, the
original profile was setup without an owner. This requires me to enter the
security settings for every folder in the profile, set the owner, assign
permissions, then copy to the new server. With even just a few profiles this
is tedious. Is there no way to backup the entire Profiles folder on the old
server and restore it on the new server? Other people must replace their
hardware besides me.

Doesn't make sense to me. None of my profiles were set up with a
specific "owner", and they all have a myriad of different ACLs. Can you
be more specific about the exact method you used to try and copy them,
the portion that would not copy, and what error you got. Obviously all
trustees must be resolvable on both servers.

Have you tried doing it with tape?
