I would like to move all the messages in my Outlook
Express files from one IBM Laptop running W98 to another
running XP Pro. The W98 laptop has a floppy drive, the XP
Pro laptop does not. I have about 6 MB of files on the
W98 laptop which I want to move. How can I best do this?

Thanks in advance.....(sure wish they both had burners or
USB ports!)

The two systems must have something in common in order to transfer files.
They must both have a diskette drive, a CD, or some other compatible medium,
like a network connection. Failing all that, remove the disk from the W98
system and temporarily install it in the XP system as a second drive. Copy
the .dbx files from the temporary disk to some folder on the XP system and
then move the disk back to the original machine.

Thanks very much! I appreciate the help. I will do
this.....I have no other way that will work!

I may be missing something here, but it appears to me that
I cannot do any of these things. The old Thinkpad has is
running W98, and it has a floppy drive. I do not have any
of the original software for it either. The new thinkpad
was running W98, but someone loaded it up with XP Pro, and
I do not have that disk either. It also has no floppy
drive. The only thing I can think of to do is to zip all
the OE message files on to MANY floppies, upload them to
my desktop, then burn them on to a CD and upload them to
the new Thinkpad. If there is something wrong with my
logic, please advise. I am, as you can tell, treading in
areas that I do not know much about.

Thanks for your help. I looked at all the URL's you
posted, and I just cannot seem to find the answer to my
problem there. Maybe there is no answer....or I am just
not seeing it.

OK, do this the easy way. Part one: take both machines to a good local
computer shop (not CompUSA or Best Buy) and tell them what data you
want transferred. They can do this quickly and easily for you, and it
should not cost very much. Of course this does depend on where you
live, but to give you an idea, it would cost $40-60 from me, depending
on exactly what needed to be done. Part two: understand that you will
eventually need a legal operating system disk, along with any software
cd's that came with the laptop. Someday you'll need to reinstall and
you won't be able to do that without the programs.
