Moving outlook items

N

Nick Drew

As I have Outlook 97 and Outlook Express 6, I'm using OE as my default mail
handler. However, I have a fair number of emails stored in Outlook to which
I have to refer from time to time.

Is there any way to move them so that I can open them in OE and thus not
have to use Outlook at all?

Also: when clicking on an email link (xxx@ somethingorother), my Windows
treats Outlook as the default mail handler and opens a new message in
outlook. Any way I can change this?

Any help appreciated

Import them into Outlook Express. In Outlook Express, click on the File menu
and choose Import. Choose Outlook to import from. Import your messages.

Right click on your IE icon on your desktop. Click on Properties. Click on
the Programs tab and then click on the drop-down menu for Mail. Make Outlook
Express your default mail program. After you're certain that all this is
done successfully, you can go ahead and either delete your mail account
settings in Outlook 97 or delete Outlook altogether if you're not going to
use it.

Well the first part (importing items) was easy when I knew where to
look.....

Not so sure about the latter though - when I right click on IE, then
properties, there isn't a programs tab. Am I missing something?

Thanks a lot for that

Alternatively, try Control Panel, Internet Options

Ah, my mistake - I should've thought of internet options in IE. I was being
a bit slow....

A genuine problem now though - I go to 'email' in the programs tab and
Outlook is the only option. Like OE is the only option for newsgroups. Any
ideas?

Thanks a lot

Double check that the below listed path is the location of your msimn.exe
(Outlook Express) file. If it is not, substitute the path of that file on
your computer inside the quotes below. Then click Start button -> Run...

Type: "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Yes, the quotes are used and there is a space between the closing quote mark
and the /reg switch.

That should add Outlook Express to your Mail Program choice list.

That worked straight off. Thanks mate, you're a legend.
