I finally 'bit the bullet' and bought a domain name for my Linus website &
will be moving it to the new location in a few days. I don't want it to be
called donnakwilts - it will be linusidaho in the future. I'm not quite
sure how to publish my website with the new name. I'm assuming I can't just
do a file-save as like I would with work, or excel. Hope I'm making
sense - - Help, please!

After you have set up your hosting account, and had the FP extensions installed, you will need to
wait up to 72 hours for the domain name to prorogate around the internet, once that is done, you
would then publish either from your local copy or the current site (if it has the FP extensions) via
FP using File Menu | Publish Web / Site to http://www.linusidaho.com or http://www.linusidaho.org,
etc.

After you allow the domain name to propagate the web (up to 72 hours),
you would publish to http:// whateverthenameis.whatever. Providing of
course that your new host supports the FrontPage extensions. Some
hosts require the www, some say leave it out, check their FAQs. It
really does not matter what you named the site on your PC, as long as
you set your domain name to point to the server. This is usually done
via a control panel of some sort on your host.

Thanks, Tom & Wes for the info. The new host supports FP. I was told I
could use either http://www or just www. As some of you told me - lots of
popups on tripod that I'm using now and I was getting complaints from some
of the people who I really want to target with my website - so decided it
was time!

I really do appreciate all the help I get from this ng.

Thomas,

Respect your input here, however there are hosts that say "do not use the
www prefix".

ALWAYS check with your host.

BTW, None of the sites I administer require the www, and one said
definitively not to.
Publishing problems I had in the past were attributed to other issues which
have been resolved.

Aloha

When a host set up a domain based web site, it should always be accessible via
http://wwww.domainname.com or http://domainname.com and FP can access it either way, however
whichever method is used, should always be used from that point on since in terms of server sessions
each type is a unique session connection.

I believe before I actually publish to the new site, I will be making a
phone call to my computer guy to see for sure which way I should go.
However, the confirming e-mail he sent me did say that http://www or www.
could be used.

Could you explain the difference between just http: and http://www? I'm
not sure I understand the difference.

FP will not connect to a remote server without using http:// (or ftp://)

Basically http tell to connect to a remote server on port 80 which is the default port on a server
that host web sites.

ftp:// should not be used when the FP extensions are installed.
