Moving local profile to domain profile:

I’m planning to migrate Workgroup to domain. Desktop computers are going to
be the same Windows XP, they will join domain.
There is local profile, with several software setting, that has to stay the
same.
When user log on to its designated computer, old profile must be copy to new
profile.
Because there is going to be couple of hundred users, I don’t like to set up
new profile, I would like to copy old on.
If I copy old profile to new profile, it works only if user is local
administrator, but if it is not in local administrative group, it does not
work…
I don’t like to make all new user in domain local administrator, to have
access to old profile und registry settings.

If you're doing this on a large scale, you might want to look into
using the USMT - User State Migration Tool.
