Hi

I would like to move public folders from one server (being decomissioned to
another). It is quite large 1GB+

What is the best way to do this? Xcopy? DFS?

I would like the drive mapping letter to stay the same and have as minimal
interruption as possible.

Would the same apply for home folders?

A few general thoughts would be appreciated

I just moved a share containing 60GB of research data from one server to
another. Don't bother copying. Use a backup utility that can perform
verification after the restore. NTbackup is a fair choice if you don't use
backupexec another 3rd party app.

however, 1 GB is actually very manageable for copy. As long as you are
running 100Mbps and have a relatively fast stable system, it should take
less than 10 minutes.

But if the data is critical, I really recommend a backup utility.
