I have powerpoint presentations made a year ago (with pp2002) that have
movies in them and they used to run fine. Now they just go blank. Can anyone
explain why, and how I can solve this. I need to be able to use the
presentations on other computers - so it has to be one that will work across
different versions of powerpoint (2002, 2003, and possibly 2000) (and, if
important, different versions of media player).

I'm afraid that we'll need more information. Where do they not play? Is it in
PowerPoint 2002 or 2003 or both? You say that they "just go blank". Do you
mean that you see a white frame or a black frame, or is there no frame at all.
If the latter, did you break the link by moving the presentation? See:

Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or email a
presentation

If you see a white or a black frame, see the tips at

Thanks Sonia,

I am still using PowerPoint 2002. I am able to insert movies into slides but
cannot play them - when I try to play them they turn into a blank white box.
These movies used to work in presentations I made a year ago with the same
PowerPoint 2002 - but updates have been loaded since then - so something
seems to have changed that is preventing all movies from running within
PowerPoint.

I hope this clarifies the problem.

A ha!
I seem to have solved the problem (for the moment anyway). It looks like the
links to the movies were failing.
I moved the movies to a new folder, then resaved the presentations into the
new folder with the movies. Then I deleted the orginal movies from the
presentation (as they would be trying to link to a different folder), then
reinserted the movies so that the link was restablished to the new folder.
They sem to be running fine now.

Thanks for you assistance Sonia - the suggested links were helpful.
