moviemaker with windows 2000?

I simply want to download from the tape in my Sony Handycam DCR-HC40 to my C drive, preferably using the USB port (I don't have a firewire port). Moviemaker seems only to work with XP. Is there an alternative?

Hello there,

MovieMaker2 will only work on XP.

MovieMaker2 can work with USB for the capture of still images or the capture of
video from a video capture device which in turn is plugged into an analog
camera. (I don't know whether your camera is digital or not) If your camera is
capable of DV output then you MUST use the recommended iLink cable and capture
card. (iLink = Firewire)

If you don't have a firewire connection (i-link/ieee1394) on the pc then buy
a card and some software will come with it. If you have one, then look at
Ulead/Pinnacle both of whom do reasonably priced software which is easy to
use.
