Can i use MovieMaker for...

Hi,

I own a Sony Digital HandyCam (DCR-TRV320)
It has a DV port (called iLink in Sony literature).

Came to know that I can purchase an adapter card for my PC
which comes with IEEE 1394 cable. Checked the cable and
found one end can fit into the DV port of my handyCam.

I wish to download the videos I have recorded to PC and
write them to a VideoCD. (so I can play them on my VCD
player/home theatre system)

Would like to know if I should use Ms-MovieMaker to
download the video from Camera-to-PC to achieve this.

Hi there,

I would use Movie Maker ... certainly. But be warned that quite a few
people with Sony cameras have a problem getting their cameras to work
properly. If you do have problems go to www.papajohn.org and check out the
"Problem Solving" section

I can agree with John Kelly on this point.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV80E and it does not like MM2 or vice versa.
It now works on a laptop using the USB2 drivers, and we have found this to
be only when no other USB
drivers have been installed. We do not have firewire on the laptop so could
not test this.

Sony and MS need to get together to sort this one out.

Yes, there are people with issues when capturing from Sony camcorders, but
there are many without such issues. I've used 3 Sony camcorders and most of
my capturing has been with a DCR-TRV330, and I've yet to experience a
problem with any of them. I think the odds of being successful far outweight
the odds of having problems.

As you already own the camcorder, and the cost of an adapter card is low,
and you really want to be capturing via an iLink connection, you should go
ahead and set it up.

I'm looking to buy a new digital camcorder and a Sony is what I'm probably
going with.

For what it's worth, I'll chime in to say my Sony DCR-TRV9 captures fine
with MM2.

Hi there,

As I have promised you before, every time you post misleading information I
will publicly tell you so. Microsoft need do nothing regarding this issue.
If Sony want you to use an I-Link, it is for them to provide the correct
interface. You have already been told this a number of times, it has also
been included in the complaint about your conduct in this newsgroup.

There is a reason for this message...you will do well to read it all.

You should read the comments of PapaJohn and print_maker further down in
this thread. I trust we will hear no more of Microsoft need to get together
with Sony. It is now demonstratively clear that there is no issue at all,
except perhaps one of poor/bad/inappropriate installation of software on
your system.

If you did as you claimed earlier and set up a clean system, then obviously
either the computer hardware is at fault or your camera is at fault or you
did not install the latest versions of software that ARE known to work. No
matter which, it is your responsibility to sort it out.

Further remarks of a wild and defamatory nature would not now be viewed
kindly by either of those corporations, I strongly doubt that either of them
would take any action (although it is not unknown for them to complain to
the ISP) but your ISP now having received two letters of complaint about you
already just might, especially if its pointed out to them again that you
have either been insulting or are still throwing around the type of remarks
that you have been known to in the recent past.

You now have the opportunity to ask for help, there are several people in
this news group who have some experience in the problems you have had, I am
not one of them I might add, my system works exactly the way it should, as
it does for an apparently large number of people who own Sony cameras and
use them with MM2. If you have bothered to read what PapaJohn and
print_maker have said, you will know this to be true.
