Movie plays on only half of slide

Hello,
I have successfully inserted a movie onto my slide. I hit the play button
and play the movie. The movie only plays in one half of the area available
to it. The left side of the insert area shows the movie, shrunk down to fit,
while the right side just shows half of the image at the beginning of the
movie.
Any ideas?

What type of movie? What version of PowerPoint? Windows or Mac?

It is a .avi movie running in PowerPoint 2002 on Windows XP. I have not yet
tried the tips on the site you recommended, but have visited
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm
Following that information revealed that there are no registry keys for MCI
extensions, nor can I run mplayer.exe. But, when I go to add/remove Windows
components, I cannot add "multimedia", so I'm not sure what's going on here.
Any ideas?

Sorry Glenna,
I have installed Windows Media Encoder and still nothing. PP doesn't work
and no registry values.

A couple of other things to try:

Reinstall Windows Media Player
Click on Help, Check for Updates from within PowerPoint
Click on Help, Detect and Repair from within PowerPoint

Well, I've tried everything on both sites listed previously, including
reinstalling WMP. I've updated PP and detected and repaired it. I even
installed pfc media's product and still nothing. PFC said that my file was
corrupt or Digital Rights Management and couldn't insert it. I guess we'll
have to try a different format or just do without the movies.
