Movie Player Problem

When I try to edit various clips from an existent movie,
when I click any Video Effects, my Movie Maker immediately
closes. I've tried everything I can think of, including
downloading Movie Maker again, to no avail.

If no one knows of a correction, I would like to remove
Movie Maker and reinstall, but I can't even find a way to
uninstall the present one.

Microsoft, of course, is impossible to get to.
