Movie maker just keeps crashing

ok i have tried many times to drag drop/import my video file i want to edit,
i ahve it in .mpg and .avi format, both do the same thing. when i start to
cut the .avi file to the music and chop it about movie maker pops up the
'send error report' messege, closes the program i loose my file and editing.
if i manage to save before it does this,t he saved file on loading, pops the
same error up and crashes like before. on cutting the mpg file, it decides
not to let me scan through the film on the slider, so i cant see where im
cutting at all, and wont play if i click else where on the slider, EVEN if i
press stop and it goes tot he start, it then refuses to play. Then freezes,
and shuts down.

Now the thing is, this program used to work perfectly find for me, ive made
previous videos same formats, no troubles at all, non what so ever, yet now
its doing this? crashing every damn second im in it with this one movie? i
ahve more than enough in terms of specs, i jsut updated my ram and
everything, and it worked pefectly fine with less ram!

please help its becoming tiresome and very irritating now.

Thank you for your time.

see i tried that i made it WMV file and still it had the same issues. it says
somethnig about a media make DLL error or something in the log it shows. and
i managed to make the vide by being VERY tempermental, restarting alot and
putting up with saving every cut i make and then having it crash soon after.

now my problem lies in saving, EVERY time it 37% it pops out a media error
again and would i like to send an error report again or not. thats all it
does, every format i save in, every size hits 37% and dies. it did pop up a
random few times DrWatson Postmortam Debugger error 'send error report or
not' message for that. then sending not sending it brings up another for
movie maker after.

-.- all i want to do is save my god damn movie and i cant. any ideas?

its saved mpg's avi and other formats perfectly fine before, all previous
vids ive done where mpgs. so this should be no different

it saved a file up to 37% i watched it through to see where it got to before
dying like that and its nothing hard to load at all, just one of the clips i
cut out where the camera scans across the side of a boat, shooting some guns,
it dies about half way through the clip. where there is nothing at all
difficult to load or produce on that clip or jsut after it i dont laod it
with loads of effects, and stuff like that so it shouldn't be having
problems.

it now tells me after replacing the corrupt .dll that there is now another
..dll file having a problem. xvid.dll now wants laods of error reports sending
for it insted. and still on occassion it crops up the DrWatson crap again, i
dont even know what that is! and its certainly never had an error before.

ive been told my windows xp is dropping my .dll files somehow for some
reason? apparently the first .dll the 3ivx.dll was a codec error, or
something, so i uninstalled my codec pack and reinstalled it then the new
xvid.dll error started cropping up, now, whenever i load my saved file it
does it, or at random in the program being left open.

it was working fine, now all of a sudden it has .dll errors and cant handle
one of the simplest movies i've made yet? *sigh*

MM does not work well with Mpegs, so forget using them.
avi is just a wrapper so can contain many file types, you need to find out
which. dv-avi is the only one which does work. avi's like divx, xvid etc
don't work.

try converting your movies to dv-avi or wmv.
