Hi,

Does anyone know of a movie cataloguer/database that you can click on
the movies within to play them? I have tried MovieTrack, and it is the
closest I have found so far (you can right click on a movie and select
play to open up your media player), but it has a couple of bugs that
make it hard for me to use. I have also looked at Ant, which is by far
the most common match on a google search, but it isn't what I am
looking for (I have some video files on my hard drive that I want to
catalogue).

These may help .

Hi jmatt,

Thanks for the suggestions. d2J doesn't allow you to play the movies
though, and Maximus doesn't sound like what I am after. I already have
a movie player that can play DVD's from the hard drive, and the
description for Maximus only says that the cataloging system is for
DVD's - doesn't sound like it can play media files from it. I wouldn't
have believed that a cataloging program that allows you to click on
the files to play them would be so hard to find. I've been looking for
over a month now, trolling through google and my favourite freeware
sites, and I've found nothing except for MovieTrack (which is buggy on
my PC), and MediaMan (technically it isn't designed for local files,
but I've found that the url linker can be used for this purpose - it's
not very configurable though, so I didn't try it out for long). I'm
beginning to think that such a program doesn't exist! :-(

Mabe you could do a search on Ant Move catalog forums for play or something,
i think I remember there was a topic about making AMC do that.

I checked, Ant Movie Catalog can do that, you need to put movie
path/filename in URL field and open will play the file.

Thanks very much Fran, I will give that a go and post back how it
goes! :-)

Well, I put the path to the movie in the url field, but I cannot find
any open function anywhere. The closest I can find is in the File menu
- but open here just allows you to open a new database. Does anyone
familiar with Ant know where this function may be? I've looked in the
help file, but can find nothing there on it.

I tried it, too, and it's deceptively easy! Type the full path to the
file in the URL field. To run the movie, click on the globe on the
right side of the URL field. I hope this helps. By the way, this is
one of my favorite freeware programs. :)

I've got a correction on this. When I did it yesterday, I was using
version 3.4.3. I updated to version 3.5.0.0 today, and he got rid of
the globe, making it a bit less instantaneous. Now you click on the
arrow to the right side of the URL field and select Open URL to play
the movie off of the hard drive. Adding links to movies on the HD is
easier now, though, since the other option when you click on that
arrow is for browsing the HD. In version 3.4.3 you had to type the
path in manually.
