Movie and sound file types

Which sound and movie file types can be used in a PowerPoint slide show? I’m
just getting into this area and would be grateful for some guidance.

I am using 2003.
 
Thank you for the link. The document refers to 2000 and earlier - are you
aware of how 2003 might be different?
