Moved from Dynamic to Static IP... Windows networking broken

A software vendor we use required us to change our Windows XP Home Edition
network from dynamicly assigned IP addresses to static ones. We still have
working Internet access, but Windows Networking and File and Printer sharing
no longer works.

I have tried unistalling and reinstalling the Microsoft Network client, and
the File and Print sharing clients, but it still does not work.

When I click on View Workgroup Computers in My Network Places, I get an
error dialog box entitled: My Network Places.

"'Network name' is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permission.

The Network path was not found."

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Isn't all you did to accomplish this task was to edit the HOSTS file?
If so, then the HOSTS files are mismatched.
