I bought a new (bigger, faster) disk drive and installed
as drive E: on my Win XP pro system. I want to move the
OS and all other stuff to this disk and also make it be
drive C: after removal of the old disk.

Can someone help? Is there a KB article for this?
(I searched using "move XP" and other wordings, but could
not find anything useful).

I could rebuild the whole system from the Microsoft CD,
but this would take days and I would be fixing minor
things for weeks thereafter. My system has no floppy
disk, so the backup and recover utilities will not work.
I do have a CD-RW and DVD-RW.

Use PartitionMagic 7 (rev 303 or higher) or Partitionmagic
8, install your new drive as IDE-1 (existing as IDE-0) and
the get Partitionmagic to copy one to the other. You can
resize the partitions at the same time.
