We are trying to move to a new pc with a new hard drive. We used to use
partitionmagic but that no longer seems to work :-(. Trying to get around
reinstalling os, office & all the other programs we use weekly. Anyone got
any ideas? TIA

Ok thanks for the tip. I looked @ their site & wonder if you can move that
image to another hd on a different pc?

Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost can do the trick. You can make an image
and copy that image to the other hard drive (or clone the drive). Note that
it is an exact image, with the same device drivers, etc. If you move it to a
different machine with different hardware, it may require a repair of
Windows XP: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Use Acronis True Image Home or a comparable imaging program to
migrate.

If you have a retail licensed version of Windows XP and perform a repair
installation after the move (and fix the problem the repair install will
cause with the update system afterwards) - sure.

As for your 'using partition magic' <- what?

Visit the website of your new hard drive's manufacturer. They should have a
utility to clone your existing drive to the new one.

You'll have to do a repair install after the move.
