Move secured DB to shared folder, now it won't open

I am using Access 2002. A colleague and I created a database our company
needed, then secured it using the user-level security wizard. No problems
there. I got all of that figured out with a test database before using a real
one, so they security was set up well and worked beautifully.

The problem now comes when we move a copy of the secured database and the
shortcut to the secured database into a shared folder the entire company can
access. Now, when the users who need it try to access the database via the
shortcut, one of these two different possible errors occurrs:

1. They are able to enter a user name and password, but then nothing
happens. The database doesn't open. They just get a blank screen.

2. When they open the folder, they cannot even open the database at all.
They are just told that "the drive or network" referenced is unavailable,
however, the secured database is right there in the same folder.

Anybody know what is going on and how to fix this? My eternal thanks if you
can help.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I'll have to get back to you on whether or not
it worked, though. My colleague is the one preparing the database in
question. I'm just assisting him with it. Meanwhile, any other suggestions to
a potential solution would be appreciated so we can try several at the same
time. If anybody can still help, I'd appreciate the assistance.

Not to answer your current problem, but: if the db is going to be used
by several people simultaneously, you really need to split it into a
so-called "front end/back end" (FE/BE) structure. Google this group for
those terms, for more information.

Okay, thanks again. Sorry I'm not yet able to get back to you on that
suggestion. Sometimes folks in this company get pretty busy. I still haven't
been able to meet with my co-worker again, and he is the one working on the
database. I appreciate your suggestion, TC. I would like to learn how to do
that for future reference, but I actually think it is more advanced than we
really need for this database.

Wow! Just got back from a meeting of the minds with my co-worker and we
figured it out. Lynn, you were on the right track. As it turns out, he has
Office 2003, but almost everybody else who uses the database has Office 2002.
The target for the icon was referencing a folder with 2003, so it didn't work
for users who still had 2002. All we had to do was right click on the
shortcut icon and change the target in its properties. Thanks for your help,
everybody!
