Move RAID Controller

Hi All,

Just looking for some advice; this is the situation;
I have a compaq 1u server, which has a 5300 series raid
contoller, which is connected to a compaq storage works,
and Raid 5 configured. I want to move the Raid controller
and storage works to another (Newer) server. I want to do
this without losing my raid configuration or data thats on
the storage works. Does anyone have any
coments/suggestions?

I've had good luck with this before. I've never done this with a 5300 card,
but I have moved several RAID arrays to new servers, and had very little
trouble. Usually, just check the array manager as soon as you boot the new
machine, and make sure your settings are the same as before. One thing to
watch for is that your drive letters don't change, i.e.:

Original Config:
1 IDE HDD (C
1 IDE CD-ROM (D
RAID5 (let's say E

New Config:
2 SATA HDD (partitioned as C:, D:, E
1 IDE DVD+RW (F
Now your Raid cannot regain the E: letter. Make sure to move your letters
around previous to installing the RAID.

You should be okay if there is no additional SCSI devices.
