How can I recover my RAID Disks? Urgently need help!

Chris

My file servers is using a ASUS motherborad which has a built-in RAID
controller. I have installed 4 SATA HDs and run a RAID 0+1 disk array. Few
days ago, the motherborad has something wrong, the system is hanged during
the windows start-up screen.

1) Is it possible to move these 4 HDs to another motherborad which has a
built-in RAID function, and read all data from the disk array properly?

2) My broken motherboard is old version. I cannot find the same
motherboard. Is it possible to read this RAID disk on other motherboard
with built-in RAID controller

3) Can I use another brand RAID controller?

Please advise.

Another question I want to know. If 2 disks is running on RAID 1, is it
possible to take out one HD and run as normal disk without RAID?

1) Unlikely
2) Unlikely
3) No

You can but try a new mobo that uses the same make of raid controller, it
*may* work

You can usually simply remove / disconnect one hd in raid 1 mirror and it
will then continue to function as a single disk. Your raid utility *may*
have some specifics on this.

Only with the same or compatible RAID controller.

If it's the same brand, you can. If it's a different brand, maybe but
don't count on it.

Your best bet might be to buy an add-on card with the same RAID
controller on it that is on the motherboard. I think ASUS uses Promise
controllers and you probably can find either a Promise add-on card or
another brand of motherboard with a Promise RAID controller.
Please advise.

If it's still running on the RAID controller you can break it and use
the drive separately. If it's not connected to the RAID controller, it
might take some surgery to the drive control structures before it can be
used as a stand-alone drive.

I don't know. I've done some tinkering with the control structures of
HighPoint RAID arrays but not Promise and not for that specific purpose.
