Move Project Folders

Hi,

I'm probably making this task too difficult; but, I would like to make sure
I execute it correctly.

I am using Outlook 2007. I have email from the past 10 years in my main .pst
file. Most of the email is filed by project or by subject. The size of the
..pst file is approaching 9 GB, and at times it seems that Outlook gets a
little sluggish.

I would like to save many of the folders from Outlook to primary project or
subject folders in a different partition. I would like to have access to all
of the emails for each of those projects just as if they were still part of
the main .pst file.

I read a post from several years ago that stated that a .pst file should be
created in the folder for the project or subject that you wish to move the
emails to. Is that the best way to accomplish the objective of reducing the
size of the current .pst file; but, still have the emails (and their
attachments) available for quick reference? (I don't believe that archiving
is really a good option because there I times I need to view all of the
emails of an older project while working on a current project.)

I hope that my request makes sense.

File>New>Outlook Data File. Create the new PST, placing it on the other
partition in a folder of your choice. Give it a file name and a display
name of something other than "Personal Folders", however, so you can keep it
separate in Outlook from the main PST. Create the folders you wish in the
new PST and then copy the data in the old PST to the appropriate folders in
the new PST. When done, complress the old PST. The old PST will be smaller
and both it and the new PST will show in your folder list so you can
reference them whenever you wish.
