At times upon startup the mouse will freeze..Is there a fix rather than

How does the mouse connect to the PC ? PS/2 (Round) or a USB
connector ? If USB it's possible the Root Hub it is being served by
is restricted by available bandwidth or power consumption. If it is a
USB mouse it's likely USB-1(.1) so I'd more the connection to a
different socket on the back of the machine and see if that fixes the
issue.

Which version of XP?

What level of Service Pack (SP??) installed?

What make / model of mouse?

Using any enhanced mouse drivers? If yes, which version level (check
for updates)?
