Mouse Wheel Sounds

Ron

I am using IE 6.0 with Windows XP Professional. When I
use the mouse wheel to scroll a web page in IE, my
computer speakers produce a "squeaking" sound. Even if I
choose the "No Sounds" scheme in control panel,
the "squeaking" still happens. I cannot find a setting
for this sound anywhere in the control panel, including
under Sounds, Internet Options, and Mouse settings. How
do turn off this sound?

If you don't get the squeaking sounds while scrolling in any other
program, then you know it isn't a hardware problem with the mouse.
Therefore, the sounds must be coming from some program that is running
while you are on the Internet. Since the Windows sounds are disabled,
it must be a non-Windows program. Use Task Manager to see what's
running when you get the sounds. Any extra toolbars or popup blockers
running? Only you know what's on your computer. Scan for and remove
spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de and
Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs
before running them. These programs are free, so run them both since
they complement each other. It is best to run antivirus and spyware
removal tools in Safe Mode. Although I doubt this is virus-related, be
sure you also have a current av installed.
