mouse wheel response is erratic

If you have a can of compressed "air" blow the wheel out,
there is probably dust and skin oil in there making the
wheel skip. If you have mouse balls, take it out and clean
the gunk off the rollers with cotton swabs and alcohol. A
toothpick is also useful.
