Mouse trouble

I have Windows XP Home Edition. It is installed in an Acer laptop. Since it
was new, (it's 18 months old), the mouse periodically clicks on a link,
scrolls, or otherwise just activates on it's own. It isn't a huge problem,
just annoying as it can be. If you hold the cursor over a link for a second,
it automatically clicks it. Please help!. Thanks. ED DUNN
 
Since it is laptop, I assume you have attached a mouse separatly from the
purchase. Are you sure the mouse parameters are set correctly? Click on
Start>Control Panel>Mouse. Review all the settings.

Often happens when your mouse goes bad. Or your touchpad goes sour.

For that last irritation and maybe the others?, is should help to
turn off the X-mouse feature.
To do that easily, run the edit at line 171 on this site:
