Mouse Speed

It doesn't say a name on it but I am using the right port (keyboard's in the
other one). Maybe because it's optical, it needs power from the usb port?

No USB has +5/Gnd, Data, Data1 and PS2 uses +5/Gnd, Data
and Data-Clk so it should be a standardized converter. Optics
gets it power from the +5v/Gnd lines. One test is to plug up the
mouse and flip it over and watch as the machine cold boots. The
opticals should flash on during BIOS post, if not then it's either
the adapter or a BIOS setting related to the PS/2 ports in the
Advanced or Peripherals category of BIOS setup.

I can't seem to get my mouse to go fast enough. I have the pointer speed set
to maximun in mouse properties. I also tried updating the driver, it says

grin.

I just got a new Dell with usb mouse/keyboard, no ps/2 port. I too, cant
get the mouse to go "fast". Darn USB mouse I got with the pc is a ball
mouse, not optical. I wonder if that is the "problem".

I may have to try this. Have you done this, and if so, did you move the
left click function so it's still w/ index finger or keep it as it was?

I think the intended humour of my answer may have been lost.
