Mouse Selects Cells without Mouse button

I have imported a text file into Excel 2002. After getting the data
into the spreadsheet, cells are selected by moving the mouse without
using the left mouse button. F8 is not active & the EXT indicator is
not on. The menu is inactive, keyboard shortcuts do not work, and
right clicking also does not work. The only way to get out of the
worksheet is to click the taskbar & close Excel by right clicking the
Excel button on the taskbar and choose Excel.
Does anyone have any input on this?
