mouse right-click and critical update 821557 for XP

Ralph Miller

Help, we are having problems with our machines after the
critical update 821557 is applied. After applying this
patch, we lose the ability to right-click on anything.
The PC just sits there and won't respond and does not
respond even after waiting for well over a minute just to
bring up a right-click menu. Only rebooting allows us to
get control of the machine again. The machines involved
are all good quality Gateways, at least 1.6 Ghz with 512
MB RAM and Nvidia geforce cards with up to date drivers.
If we remove the 821557 update, the PCs revert to correct
behavior. Please help. Until we resolve this problem, we
had to turn off all windows updates in our domain to
prevent this update from being reinstalled on the
machines we removed it from.

I'm another on that installed the latest Critial Updates
and now when ever I use the right click in Windows
Explorer, my system hangs. This has affected other people
but obviously not EVERYONE, or there would be more of an
uproar. Does anybody know if/when Microsoft has a fix
planned? thank you.

Yup, me too!

I've removed 821557 and all is well, apart from leaving the critical
security issue unresolved.

How long is it going to take to get Microsoft to produce a critical update
to update the flaw in the critical update that was produced to fix a flaw in
the original program???

Good Work Microsoft!!!
