Mouse problems - Intellimouse Explorer 2.0

My mouse is driving me completely insane. Since my wireless optical mouse
stopped working, I've gone back to an older optical mouse I had stored away -
my Intellimouse Exploerer 2.0. However, I now have a huge problem. Although
the mouse WORKS, it takes up around 70% CPU usage whenever I use it. This
makes playing games completely impossible and I cannot find any solution for
it what so ever - hell, I can't even find informataion on the mouse on any
area of the microsoft site. The closest I can find is Intellimouse Explorer
3.0, and even then nothing caters to the problem I'm having.

I'm running Windows XP Professional, and have all the latest updates
including, of course, SP2. I have run full virus and adware scans, which came
up with nothing.

Anybody have any idea's what so ever which may be causing this?

Are you saying my PS/2 mouse is old !!!!

You should be able to purchase a new mouse and try it. Most stores are good
about returns as long as its repackaged nicely.

First though, uninstall in device manager and reboot maybe? Uninstall USB
ports as well. Not sure if that will work as I don't use a USB mouse (or
keyboard).

I've tried that too, unfortunatly. I may just bite the bullet and get a
wireless logitec - the bluetooth adaptor may prove quite useful.

I read somewhere in microsoft kb that when using wireless mouse, you should
remove all drivers for other mice.

No you didn't because that's complete BS. I have both a corded and wireless
mouse attached to this system. No issues whatsoever.
