Mouse Problems == advice needed.

Using WinXP SP2 and Intellipoint.

If I select text by click and dragging, I can only select portions of the
text.
If I hover the pointer over a hyperlink it changes to selected and back
intermittently although I don't move the mouse.
Today it was difficult to select icons in a window; the close button e.g.
The mouse trouble-shooter provides no answer.
I downloaded the genuine Intellipoint software from the web.
What's gone wrong?
