mouse problem

Running xp home with a ps2 mouse on windows drivers. On first boot mouse has
no function. cursor will not move from center of screen. Then I do a restart
from the close window and when restarted the mouse works fine the rest of the
day.

Check the BIOS to be sure the mouse port is active. The in
Windows check drivers and ports.

Bios ok. mouse works fine on second start without any other changes. Hard to
access device manager with keys only. But after second start all devices are
loaded correctly with no conflicts. Drivers say ok and no problems from then
an, until next day. then we start all over again.

To access Device Manager with keyboard only Winkey+Pause/Break then CTRL+Tab
to Hardware and Tab to Device manager then arrow keys to navigate.

Is this a wired or wireless mouse? If wireless change batteries. If you
try another mouse does the same problem arise?

why would mouse work ok on restrat but not on first boot, every time? Mouse
is wired ps2 that works on other comps ok. Other mouse does same thing on
this comp.

Is there a related Error Report in the System log in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Been awhile to get back to problem. Been busy. But! Looked in bios. No input
anywhere for a mouse function other than usb. This is of course not a usb.
Then opened first boot and looked in dev mgr. No mouse or pointing device
listed. Then tried to do hardware scan. Scan did not find mouse. Then tried
to manual install pointer dev. No pointer devices listed anywhere in any
list. Gave up and rebooted. Of course all of a sudden the mouse works and
mouse is listed in dev mgr now. Then looked in event viewer for both system
and apps. No applicable entries for this problem.
