mouse problem

for some unknown reason my mouse pointer now has a hourglass beside it at all
times. task manager says nothing is working in background, so can someone
tell me what gives?

The mouse pointer scheme may be corrupted. Start > Settings > Control Panel
Mouse icon. Click "Pointers" tab. Select a new scheme. Click the Apply
button. Should fix it.

I'm having the same problem as Del. I tried your suggestion, but it didn't
correct the problem. I now have a new scheme, but the hourglass continues to
appear. And, like Del, I've confirmed that nothing is running in the
background. This problem appeared suddenly and inexplicably. No no
programs, hardware, etc. added. I'm baffled.
