Mouse problem

Tom Brown

I originally posted this plea on the hardware forum but didn't get too many
responses. One person suggested I turn off power management and I did ...
no help. The other response suggested I buy a new mouse. I'd rather get
this one working correctly. Here is the original posting.

==================================================

My Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse (attached to my laptop via USB hub) will
not work after I have left it for a while unless I click the left button.
In fact, I just did some experimentation and found that it works (moves the
cursor) if I move the mouse within 60 seconds of the last time I used it,
but at 61 seconds or more, I must click a button to make it respond. This
sometimes causes trouble when the mouse is focused on top of something I
didn't want to click.

TIA,

Tom

Tom,

Just my two cents but have you changed the batteries recently? The wireless
mouse at work (Logitech) needs the batteries periodically changed or there
are sudden skips & slow responses. Try new batteries to eliminate that as
the problem.

Try new batteries.

If that doesn't help then see if your mouse has the option of different
channels (so you can tune to a different frequency if there is interference
from other devices). Re-tune the mouses frequency. Read the readme and help
files, check the MS website to see how to do this if you can't work it out
by looking at the mouse and receiver (you've kept the model a secret).

Open Control Panel>Double Click on Mouse Icon>Click on Wireless
tab>Check the Battery Status there. If necessary replace the exsisting
batteries with new one.

I don't have a Wireless Tab but in the properties for the HID Compliant
mouse, there is a box checked for "Allow this device to bring the computer
out of standby." The batteries have just been replaced.

Thanks,

Tom

Alan,

The batteries are new and all I know about the model is that it's a
Microsoft Optical Wireless mouse. It has a wheel. I seem to recall seeing
Intellimouse when I bought it but I see no reference to that now. It has a
solid gray top with the lower part being silver. The USB Receiver is also
dark gray. The receiver has a button that allows me to change (sync) the
link between the two (and also a button on the bottom of the mouse) but
pressing either of those has not helped.

Thanks,

Tom

Try a different USB mouse to see if it is a USB issue or specific to that
mouse.

I don't know what you are talking about. You and Drew posted an answer to
my question and I posted a reply to yours. What did I do wrong?

Oh, are you talking about my reply to Mr. S. Sengupta? Hey, he's an MVP and
probably knows what he's doing. I just appreciate his response and I'm not
going to bust him about where he put the answer. Unfortunately, neither
answer helped my problem.
