Mouse or software?

Whenever I try to move a folder on the screen by holding the left mouse
button down on the title bar
and sliding to where I want the folder, all it does is pop to full screen as
soon as I click. It seems thay every single-click acts like a double click.
I've done everything I can to change it in 'folder
options', 'control panel' and 'comp admin', etc, but nothing helps. What am
I missing? I've played with 'double click speed', 'click lock', and
everything else. Even 'Tweak UI'. I've tried 4 different mice, - PS2,
USB, Serial and Wireless. I've updated drivers. I've uninstalled everything
to do with my 'screen
appearance' and any other changes I can think of. I HATE the way it behaves.
I even tried several restore points all the way back to two days after I
loaded XP. Then, finally, I did what I thought was the ultimate cure: I did
a Repair reinstall of XP Pro. NO CHANGE!!! This is making me nuts. Any help
will be greatly appreciated. TIA

could be a simple matter
of a bad mouse, otherwise
the o.s. is designed to be
an enjoyable experience.

a simple test is to compare
the o.s. normal mode with
the safemode and see if
the problem exists there too.

As I said above ^ , I tried several different types of mouse. I did solve
the problem though. System > Advanced > Settings > Visual Effects > Custom.
I unchecked all of the 'Slide' and 'Fade' effects. Thank you for your input.
