Mouse momentarily Halts

I am running Win XP on an AMD ATHLON 2800+ XP Barton with 512MB ram and an
ASUS A7n8x Deluxe motherboard. Since this morning the mouse momentarily
halts every 30 secs or so for about half a second. It is really annoying. It
is like something is taking up some of the system resources. Does anyone
have any ideas?

There is definitely something running in the background that causes this
problem. I would suggest you to disable the background applications by
Start-Run, type msconfig and press enter. click the Startup tab and un check
the software that you dont need at startup.

Restart and check if that helps. If no use, try to run a Spyware/ad-ware
program to to remove adware/spyware files. This could be a major cause.

Ad-aware is available for download at
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware
You may also try spyware from
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10194058.html?tag=lst-0-1

If still there are problems, then check your processor for over heat
symptoms.

This should help you.

Search for viruses with an Anti-Virus program (online scanner or legaly
bought) Also scan for adware. Much more common to get, and when massed up,
can drain huge amounts of system resources. One program for removing adware
and spyware is Lavasoft's Ad-Aware 6.

I had ad-aware 6 installed but not any spyware. Anyway I downloaded it from
the site you suggested and ran. I never realised the rubbish that gets
downloaded that ad-aware does not find. Any way the sticking mouse problem
is cured. Thanks very much for your help. I was on the point of chucking the
computer out the window
