I have a microsoft opticle mouse and at 3pm today it
started 'creeping' accross my window. If you place in in
the lower righ corner...it will be in the left upper
corner in less than 60 seconds.

I have checked for various viruses, reinstalled drivers
(for the mouse, video card, etc), and even tried multiple
mice (ps2 and various usb mice), restarted the computer,
and the list goes on and on.

I looked on the web and found a few people who had the
same proble (all who use XP), but not one answer. I have a
computer engineer in the family and even he is stumped.

SOS... Can anyone help me????

This is a guess, XP has built in animation and one is the
mouse, test this by disabling all animation on your system
if it stops then there is your answer.

Good Luck

A lot of optical mice will sometimes move about a little bit, may be every
couple of days I'll notice mine jiggle around a few pixels here and there.

But moving from one side to the other sounds like faulty hardware. Make
sure the lens is free from dirt and stuff too.

I have seen this happen under several circumstances.

1. You have installed a device on a COM port and the software or drivers
controlling the device cause the problem.

2. You have installed a USB to COM / Serial port adapter and again the
software or drivers controlling the device cause the problem (typically
Belkin converters have this problem which is why I use Roline or
Sitecom).

Under situation "1" I typically find re-installing the Mouse drivers or
even upgrading them fixes the problem.

Under situation "2" try using another manufactures product.

Disclaimer: I am NOT saying Belkin products are C@#P, they make many
fine products some of which I do use, however I have never been able to
get their USB To Serial working properly.
