Mouse clicks

My system is developing a problem whereby a single mouse click is having the
effect of a double click. Is my mouse in need of replacement or is there
some setting I can adjust?

Try this:
Open an Explorer window. Tools/Folder Options... On the General tab, at
the bottom, is "Single click to open" checked? If so, click on
"Double-click to open"
