Mouse and touchpad not working anymore

Hi

After a system crash neither the touchpad nor the USB/Bluetooth mouse of
my acer notebook work anymore. Reinstalling the driver from hardware
manager doesn't work. Well now I'm glad to learn much about using
windows with keyboard only, but sometimes I miss the mouse pointer. ;-)
Any suggestions how to reactivate the touchpad/mouse would be appreciated.

TIA
Knut

Try uninstalling all related drivers for the BlueTooth device and your
touchpad. Remove them from Device Manager and reboot. Now try
reinstalling the software for both and see if that helps. If you still
have problems, you can try this to remove the BlueTooth device (not sure
what the touchpad would be under):

Disconnect the problem device and open the Registry Editor
(Start-Run-regedit). Navigate to HKLM\System\CCS\Enum\USB and look for
the folder containing information about the problematic device. Now
right click on the folder labeled Vid_Xxxx that contains the information
about the problematic device and click Permission. Allow full control
of the key, then right click on it and delete it. Now reboot and try again.
