touchpad not there

my touchpad just randomly stopped working so i had to plug in a mouse, i have
acer laptop and vista premium. i attempted to roll back the driver, but now
it says the touchpad isnt there, can anyone help? please dont tell me to take
it back!!!

If the driver can't find the device then I suspect it is time
for a technician to look at it. Could be something simple
such as the pad has a loose cable.

hmmm...maybe. its a new one, so i can just take it back!!! yea i tried
reinstalling the driver but it still doesnt work, how annoying! its weird
though, cos ive gone on the settings and it says the touchpad is enabled but
clearly its not!
