Hi,

we have some windows xp clients. We mount some samba shares (from
linux server) on them. The problem is that we cannot mount the share
using the linux server DNS name but have to use its IP address. It
doesn't work if we use DNS name. Does anybody know why ?

Go with a windows server
Your clients will love you more
Just do not Cry when they came knotting at my Door!

But if you have to have a linux server go with
http://www.xandros.com/
it work good with Windows!

Now DNS name for Windows is give by your clients Internet Provider
Like my Computer Name is giving by Windows \\MyNew for my network,

my DNS name giving by Internet Provider is
http://c-98-198-178-144.hsd1.tx.comcast.net/
You see the IP in the DNS name
Not all Internet Provider do the same in DNS name!

What does the ipconfig /all command report? Is it showing the correct
DNS server information?
