Motherboard change now have two windows XP

I need help to repair Windows after I changed my motherboard from an MSI K8n
Neo2 Plat to an ETS KN1 SLI .

C: drive - Windows and programs
D: drive - data
G: drive - scratch disk.

On trying to log on Windows asked me to reactivate then said "incorrect
product key"

I then used my OEM restore disk and it reinstalled a fresh copy of windows
onto my G: drive. It asked me to authenticate and this was accepted using
the OEM key.

To get my programs working I thought now I'll go back C: windows and
authenticate again but I still get "incorrect product key"

How can I have windows authenticated on G: but not on C: ? Perhaps because
there are drivers for the old MB still installed? If this is the case is
there a way that I can fix this?

The MSI motherboard used Nforce3 chipset and the new ETS MB uses Nforce4
chipset.

Boot from a WinXP CD and do a repair installation on drive C. You might need a retail version CD to do this. If you want to do a clean install you could wipe the C drive clean and do a restore to drive C.

Apparently you did not realize that when you change the motherboard used
with a harddrive containing Windows as the OS, you HAVE to reformat the
harddrive and do a fresh install of the OS in order to avoid the problems
you are having.

Apparently you still don't realize that you DON'T always
have to reformat and do a fresh install. Often you don't
even need to do a repair install, though Windows may need
reactivated.

Kony,

thanks for the encouragement! I have spent a day on the web and found
enough to get a positive result without reformatting or re-installing
Windows. If our polititians had the same resolve, had the same
frustration and spent the same time as I did then perhaps they personally
might avoid the rush to violent conflict.

thanks,
